In 1919, the first opening....

Settled about ninety years ago by married Emma and Sebastiano Battaglino the place is thru nowadays a stroing defender of piedmontes pride.
In 1919 Emma purchased the commercial permission for 2.700 Lire on an old nowaways yellow paper, The ancient commercial permissionjealousy locjed on a today restaurant wall ; Sebastiano - aka Bastian - once steam train fire manager on the line Cavallermaggiore-Cantalupo, turned then in cooker, at the end of working day was used to do, in the wife owned restaurant near to Bra train station, some big number table with travelers, railroad workers, and country people coming from Langa and Roero in bra for the city market. So in the "Osteria della Vezza", first restaurant name, guests was happy with just a good "minestrone di trippe" or a coocked meat dish. Coocker capabilities of mr. La storica cucinaSebastiano Battaglino, ecletic man, in small times become well known and the restaurant had lot of people coming from Torino, Milano and Genova.

 

 

 

Second generation years: between lyric music and Piedmontese cooking traditionMaria Callas
So famouse for the "Time Fare" (paying related to the time for rest at table ) in aftwer war years the place, owned by the son Carlo became more and more destination of VIP persons: Maria Callas, Savoia family, Bra bornd writer Giovanni Arpino, Italy President Luigi Einaudi (Tip : in 1948, day April 18 while voting for first republican parlament, Luigi Einaudi wrote by his hands a thanks paper, himn at piedmont cooking tradition: "To commendator battaglino, whom give to piedmont cooking true rights, ").
Big fan of Opera Music, Carlo deciced to prove his culture being partecipant in 1959 on "Lascia o Raddoppia" on tv, by Mike Buongiorno, where he met Maria Callas who became a friend and a place habitué.

Third generation: a story across the time
Today restaurant owner is Beppe Battaglino, son of Carlo, that has unite the goliardic style of the grandpa and the father passion about Opera. He is the "heartquake" of the restaurant as the Michelin guide says, very original restauranter that, helped from wife Maria Teresa, turned the restaurant, joined with his brother Sebastiano, died some year ago, into an unique reference point for gourmets that love good stay too. Beppe, while deserving dinner and lunches, loves a lot joke with used customers and random tourists showing his local history knowings.
Still today then, the Battaglino restaurant, since 100 year, inside his walls has the family smell, an unjoinable character of local cooking style, genuine as excellence and popular by bature.
Menu too menù has been conserved the same along the time: salciccia di vitello di Bra, vitello tonnato, carne cruda, ravioli al sugo, tajarin, trippe, finanziera and Coocked with sausages.
Battaglino's family adeventure goes on day by day, offerings an authentic image of piedmon style not just in kitchen.
