In 1919, the first opening....
Settled about ninety years ago by married
Emma and Sebastiano Battaglino
the place is thru nowadays a stroing defender of piedmontes pride.
In 1919 Emma purchased the commercial permission for 2.700 Lire on an old nowaways yellow paper, jealousy locjed on a today restaurant wall
; Sebastiano - aka Bastian - once steam train fire manager on the line
Cavallermaggiore-Cantalupo, turned then in cooker, at the end of working day
was used to do, in the wife owned restaurant near to Bra train station,
some big number table with travelers, railroad workers, and country people
coming from Langa and Roero in bra for the city market.
So in the "Osteria della Vezza", first restaurant name, guests was happy
with just a good "minestrone di trippe" or a coocked meat dish.
Coocker capabilities of mr. Sebastiano
Battaglino, ecletic man, in small times become well known and the restaurant had lot of people
coming from Torino, Milano and Genova.
Second generation years: between lyric music and Piedmontese cooking tradition
So famouse for the "Time Fare" (paying related to the
time for rest at table ) in aftwer war years the place,
owned by the son Carlo became more and more destination of VIP
persons: Maria Callas, Savoia family, Bra bornd writer Giovanni
Arpino, Italy President Luigi Einaudi (Tip :
in 1948, day April 18 while voting for first republican parlament, Luigi
Einaudi wrote
by his hands a thanks paper, himn at piedmont cooking tradition: "To
commendator battaglino, whom give to piedmont cooking true rights, ").
Big fan of Opera Music, Carlo deciced to prove his culture being
partecipant in 1959 on
"Lascia o Raddoppia" on tv, by Mike Buongiorno, where
he met Maria Callas who became a friend and a place habitué.
Third generation: a story across the time
Today restaurant owner is Beppe Battaglino, son of Carlo, that has unite the goliardic style of the grandpa and the
father passion about Opera. He is the "heartquake" of the restaurant
as the Michelin guide says, very original restauranter that,
helped from wife Maria Teresa, turned the restaurant, joined with
his brother Sebastiano, died some year ago, into an unique
reference point for gourmets that love good stay too.

Beppe, while deserving dinner and lunches, loves a lot joke with used customers
and random tourists showing his local history knowings.
Still today then, the Battaglino restaurant, since 100 year, inside his walls
has the family smell, an unjoinable character of local cooking style,
genuine as excellence and popular by bature.
Menu too menù has been
conserved the same along the time: salciccia di vitello di Bra, vitello
tonnato, carne cruda, ravioli al sugo, tajarin, trippe, finanziera
and Coocked with sausages.
Battaglino's family adeventure goes on day by day, offerings an authentic
image of piedmon style not just in kitchen.
